Head of Afghanistan’s High Peace Council and Former President Burhanuddin Rabbani Killed

KABUL: Former Afghan President and the head of Afghanistan’s High Peace Council, Burhanuddin Rabbani, who had been tasked with trying to negotiate a political end to the war, was killed early on Tuesday evening, according to a senior police officer. 

Burhanuddin Rabbani's home was in Kabul’s heavily guarded diplomatic enclave, and the attack came just a week after a 20-hour siege at the edge of the area sometimes known as the “green zone”.

Nine Afghan Herdsmen Including Five Children Killed by Roadside Bomb

MAZAR-I-SHARIF: Nine Afghan herdsmen including five children have been killed by a roadside mine as they herded cattle in northwest Afghanistan, according to police. 

The incident took place in Faryab province, which borders Turkmenistan, late Friday and again highlights the dangers civilians face in the ten-year war in Afghanistan.

Chinook helicopter Shot down by Taliban, 31 Special US Soldiers killed

Kabul  : Thirty-one US Special Forces and seven local troops were killed when the Taliban shot down their helicopter, officials said Saturday, and in what was the deadliest single incident for foreign soldiers since the war began in 2001.

The Chinook helicopter was downed late Friday during an anti-Taliban operation in an insurgent-infested district of the eastern province of Wardak, just southwest of the Afghan capital Kabul.

Libyan rebels claim Gaddafi son killed

Zlitan: A Libyan rebel spokesman has claimed that a NATO airstrike on the western city of Zlitan has killed Khamis Gaddafi, one of the sons of Libya's leader Muammar Gaddafi.

Mohammed Zawawi, a spokesman for the rebels, said on Friday that Khamis was among 32 people killed in the strike.

Four Afghan Police killed by Nato air strike

JALALABAD: At least four Afghan policemen killed by NATO air strike overnight as claimed by governor of Jalalabad on this Monday.

The incident happened at a police post in rugged and insurgency-hit Nuristan, the province’s governor Jamaluddin Badr said, adding the strike was based on “wrong intelligence”.

Nato troops killed in southern Afghanistan

Kandahar : The US-led coalition said Two of their troops were killed in a in separate insurgent attacks Friday in the south Afghanistan. 

The coalition did not disclose further details of the deaths or the troops’ nationalities. The statements on the latest fatalities were released late Friday and Saturday.

More than 200 Nato troops have died so far this year in Afghanistan.
