MAZAR-I-SHARIF: Nine Afghan herdsmen including five children have been killed by a roadside mine as they herded cattle in northwest Afghanistan, according to police. 

The incident took place in Faryab province, which borders Turkmenistan, late Friday and again highlights the dangers civilians face in the ten-year war in Afghanistan.

Four Afghan Police killed by Nato air strike

JALALABAD: At least four Afghan policemen killed by NATO air strike overnight as claimed by governor of Jalalabad on this Monday.

The incident happened at a police post in rugged and insurgency-hit Nuristan, the province’s governor Jamaluddin Badr said, adding the strike was based on “wrong intelligence”.

Washington : The hugely expensive U.S. attempt at nation-building in Afghanistan has had only limited success and may not survive an American withdrawal, according to the findings of a two-year congressional investigation to be released Wednesday.

The report describes the use of aid money to stabilize areas the military has cleared of Taliban fighters — a key component of the administration’s counterinsurgency strategy — as a short-term fix that provides politically pleasing results. But it says that the enormous cash flows can overwhelm and distort local culture and economies, and that there is little evidence the positive results are sustainable.

Nato issues an apology for Killing Women and Children in Airstrike

The international coalition forces in Afghanistan has admitted the deaths of Women and Children in air strike hours after Hamid Karzai had given America a “final warning” to change its tactics and avoid killing civilians.

A statement said aircraft, which locals said were helicopters, fired into a house where insurgents had fled after killing a United States Marine.
