UN inquiry calls Israel to regret and compensate the Flotilla victums

UNITED NATIONS: A UN report on Gaza Freedom Flotilla says that Israel used “excessive” deadly violence against a Turkish-led aid flotilla to Gaza, published Thursday by the New York Times.

Eight Turkish nationals and an American of Turkish descent died in the May 31, 2010 raid when Israeli special forces in speed boats and dropped from helicopters raided the six vessels in international waters.

UN chief calls for halt to Libya fighting

New York: United Nations chief Ban Ki-moon has  urged Libyan Prime Minister Baghdadi al-Mahmudi to stop the fighting in the North African nation and help improve humanitarian conditions in a telephone call Thursday.

Ban stressed “the urgent need to find a way out of the current fighting and alleviate the dire humanitarian situation and work out a transition that could bring peace to all Libyans,” his office said.

He also said his special envoy to Libya Abdul Ilah al-Khatib was aiming to reach a peace deal for all Libyans.
